Summer of the Swans is a realistic fiction novel. Nothing seems to make Sara happy this summer. She hates her body, her shoes, her family, and basically her whole life. She loves her family, but she is tired of them, especially her brother Charlie. Suddenly Charlie turns up missing and everything comes into focus for Sarah. The swans fly away, but they leave Sara feeling like suddenly everything fits into place.
This is a good book for teaching tolerance as well as self-love. Everyone one hates something about themselves. You just have to learn how to accept and love yourself the way you are. This a great book for young adolescents.
This book reminds me what is like to be an adolescent and be annoyed with your family and how you overcome this.
