This is a non-fiction picture book. A biography of the Alabama black woman whose refusal to give up her seat on a bus helped establish the civil rights movement. This book is about Rosa Parks, as well as other African American's struggles to gain equal rights.

This book tells of Rosa Park's story and could be used for a biography study. It is also a good book to talk about character education. Rosa Parks believed in leading peaceful protests. She said violence never solved anything.

For me, this book reminds me of determination. I personally appreciate Rosa Parks ideas of protest without violence. Today too many people try to change things with violence and anger which is not necessary.

This is a great social studies book for 3rd to 5th graders.
