The Ugly Duckling Traditional Literature and Caldecott Winner

The Ugly Duckling is written by: Hans Christian Andersen and illustrated by: Jerry Pinkney

HarperCollins published this book in 1999.

This telling of The Ugly Duckling is for upper-elementary students. It is a great book for teaching character education. Students should appreciate each other's differences.

A mother duck learns that one of her babies is different from all the rest. He is an ugly duckling. Everyone thinks he is ugly. At the end of the story the duckling turns out to be a beautiful swan. This is a story about inner beauty.

Reading this book reminds of how different everyone is and how boring the world would be if we weren't different.
